What’s Happening Friday!! Hey guys! It’s been forever since I posted a What’s Happening Friday post! So, I thought I’d give you guys a quick update on what’s going on over here!

Before I get started, wanted to let you know I’ll be in Des Moines this weekend, eating and drinking my way around the city with my family. Follow along on snapchat (hipfoodiemom1) and Instagram! I finally changed my settings on snapchat and now everyone can see my story . . (still learning)! Here are just a few restaurants I’ll be visiting: Zombie Burger, Centro, HOQ and Creme Cupcake, just to name a few! We literally have like 4-5 places to hit everyday! So much food and I’m so excited!

The girls start summer school on Monday. Summer school here is just for fun and gives parents like me a few hours to themselves in the mornings. The kids take classes like art, reading, legos, brain games etc. For Madeline, this will be especially big because she is going to Camp Kindergarten. .  this will be a 3 -week prep and introduction to kindergarten, which she will start in the fall.

We went to orientation yesterday, got to see her classroom and walk around the school. It’s like I get to break out the tissues and cry twice before she starts school. It’s funny, I don’t consider myself an overly emotional person but I think I will be a little sad when I see her go through those classroom doors.

Last Sunday, I got to be a part of local summer food and drink event at our local Sur La Table. I made an appetizer and demo’ed the KitchenAid spiralizer attachment and made tons of zucchini noodles.

I really love the community we have here in Madison. It’s so much fun and this city is truly filled with so many creative and awesome people.

If you’re in Madison, check out Reve Madison, a marketing and events company, run by the beautiful Ann Marie, on the left in red. She helped to plan this event and it was fabulous!

I also met Nicole (in green, on the right). She’s super sweet and is the lead designer at Revel, a brand new creative spot in downtown. Revel hosts DIY workshops, drop-in crafts and private parties on N. Hamilton Street. I can’t wait to stop in!

I also spent some time speaking with David Curtis. He runs the Sur La Table at Hilldale and is a gem. You know when you meet people and you know pretty much within the first few minutes if you connect with the person? That’s how I felt when meeting David. I loved him so much. He is amazing! Stop in to Sur La Table and say hello!

My blogging community is amazing. The other day, I received this lovely comment, “Why are the strawberries not trimmed? Is it for staging? So unrealistic.”

I responded with a smart ass comment and got so much support from other bloggers. Some thought I was serious and that I do eat the entire strawberry ..  when, in fact, I do not and it was for food styling. I’m a food blogger! This is what I do. I try to make delicious food that you will want to eat and I try to make it look pretty too. Anyway, it was great to know people have my back.

Anyway, that’s about it. I am obsessed with snapchat and it’s FRIDAY so make the s’mores dip above. I’ll be back tomorrow with something new and healthy!

And I’ll leave you with this.

You are such a busy bee! It’s awesome that you have such an amazing community, both in Madison and from your bloggy friends. We all love you! And you know what I think of that commenter on IG. What a sad, mean person. Jealousy is ugly!
Happy Friday, Alice! Enjoy Des Moines, kindergarten camp and everything in between!

What – you can’t eat everything on a strawberry? 😛 what about being realistic to the people who are so impatient to eat their strawberries that they forget to hull them!
