If there was ever a day to go to town on a big bowl of cereal and milk, today is the day! Happy National Cereal Day!

If there was ever a day to go to town on a big bowl of cereal and milk, today is the day! Happy National Cereal Day!

Growing up, I loved cereal.  . even into adulthood and after I got married. Cereal was (and is) my jam. As a kid, I loved anything bright and sugary and as I grew older, granola and Cheerios and Total became my favorites.

If there was ever a day to go to town on a big bowl of cereal and milk, today is the day! Happy National Cereal Day!

Someone said there’s a holiday for everything, and that may in fact be true because today is National Cereal Day! If there was ever a day to go to town on a big bowl of cereal and milk, today is the day!

Fun Facts About Cereal

Cap’n Crunch’s full name is Horatio Magellan Crunch. He was born on Crunch Island in the Sea of Milk. In 2013, a food blogger noticed the Cap’n’s uniform only sported three stripes instead of four. This would make him a Navy Commander, a step down from a true Captain. When word got out, Cap’n Crunch declared on Twitter, “Of course I’m a Cap’n! It’s the Crunch—not the clothes—that make a man.”

Kix cereal issued its atomic-energy inspired Lone Ranger ring in 1947. The ring actually contained trace amounts of radioactive polonium which glowed. Sadly, the material inside the rings had a short shelf life and none in existence work today.

Of the more than 314 million people in the U.S., 49 per cent start their day with a bowl of cereal.

Astronauts from Apollo 11 boosted their brain power while in space with a cereal breakfast. The cereal was mixed with fruit and pressed into cubes since the lack of gravity kept the astronauts from pouring it into a bowl with milk.

There are 2.7 billion boxes — enough to wrap around the earth thirteen times — of cereal sold every year. Wow!!

And, you can get creative! There are so many ways to eat cereal! Put some on your smoothie bowls!

Oooh, fun facts about Cap’n Crunch! Can we also note how many college students consider that particular cereal to be prime study and/or party snack food? At least, that’s what I remember…

There truly is a national Fill In The Blank holiday for everything, huh? Happy National Cereal Day, Alice! Growing up I loved cereal too, and I kind of forgot about it as I got older. But I LOVE the idea of using it as a topping for smoothie bowls or in some breakfast cookies!!! Totally genius, my friend! Cheers!

Happy National Cereal Day, Alice! 🙂 What a wonderful day it’s gonna be. I love that you mentioned putting cereal on top of Korean patbingsu. I love me some shaved ice. <3 Also, such a great idea for adding crunch to your smoothie bowls. Loving that you have bowls with your blog's name on it! How cool is that? Anyway, have a great week, Alice! Pinning your smoothie bowl with cereal, of course. 🙂

Alice – Happy cereal day – As a kid, I never ate cereal – it just wasn’t the thing to do so I don’t have any favorites – but I do love using cereal in baked goodies 🙂

Oh my word I love your Hip Foodie Mom bowl!! It´s adorable!
I´m a huge fan of cereal, any kind, and often eat it for dinner (here we have our main meal at lunch time). I try to aboid the sugary ones at night though. I normally have cereal for breakfast in the Summer and in the winter I prefer oatmeal.

I had no idea that Cap’n Crunch’s first name is Horatio!! Don’t know why, but I always think of Shakespeare when I hear that name! And Kix is my ALL TIME favorite cereal! It’s how I bonded with my best friend in high school! Loved this post…just brought back a ton of childhood memories for me!
