Peppery Broccoli with Angel Hair Pasta!! Angel hair pasta, broccoli, cremini mushrooms, feta cheese and more. So good and so easy to make!
*** This cookbook giveaway is now closed. The winner has been notified.***
I’m a huge pasta girl. Give me any type/shape of pasta and I’m happy. And when I find a recipe that’s healthy, delicious, quick and easy to make? I’m even happier and so is my family.
I’ve always especially loved Capellini pasta or angel hair pasta. It’s so thin and easy to slurp up, which makes it dangerous . . because you can eat a lot more faster. . but it’s so delicious! When I was living in San Francisco, I fell in love with Capellini pasta from Pasta Pomodoro. They had a Capellini with their house pomodoro red sauce with fresh garlic, basil and extra virgin olive oil. This was to die for. So good! I was living in the Marina and Pasta Pomodoro was literally right across the street. Back then, in 1999, I wasn’t cooking much at all, so I would order this 2-3 times a week. It was that good.
Today’s Sunday Supper is all about Sara Moulton, her new cookbook and everyday family dinners. Sara Moulton is a Chef, Cookbook Author, and Television Personality. “Sara’s TV career began in 1979 when she was hired to work behind the scenes on public television’s “Julia Child & More Company.” Her friendship with Julia led eventually to Sara’s gig at “GMA,” where what started as another behind-the-scenes position ripened by 1997 into on-camera work. By then Sara had begun hosting the Food Network’s “Cooking Live.” Six years and over 1200 hour-long shows later, “Cooking Live” ended its run on March 31, 2002. “Sara’s Secrets” began the next day. ”Other TV chefs may own famous restaurants and perform with theatrical flair,” noted TV Guide’s Herma Rosenthal, “But Moulton’s the one you can actually picture popping over to help you fix the lumpy gravy or the fallen soufflé.””
I am so happy to be a part of today’s special Sunday Supper! All of the recipes being shared today are either from Sara Moulton or inspired by one of her dishes. And since I’m giving away a copy of her new cookbook, Sara Moulton’s Everyday Family Dinners, I wanted to choose a recipe from the book and share it with you. I love how quick, simple and delicious this recipe is to make. . . truly making it a family dinner, one that you can whip up easily any night of the week. This pasta is light and flavorful and I love the addition of the broccoli, which is unusual but delicious! I actually made a big batch of this which we enjoyed with friends on July 4th.
Peppery Broccoli with Angel Hair Pasta for #SundaySupper
Ingredients
- 1 bunch broccoli about 1 1/2 pounds
- 12 oz Capellini aka angel hair pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2-3 cups cremini mushrooms; sliced
- kosher salt and pepper
- 2 cups chicken stock or broth
- 1-2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes depending on desired level of heat
- 6 oz feta cheese; crumbled
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley; chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Cut the broccoli tops into bite-size florets; trim and peel the stems and slice them 1/2 inch thick (about 5-6 cups total). Add the broccoli. Cook for 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the broccoli to a bowl.
- Add the angel hair to the boiling water and cook until al dente, following the package directions. Drain well and return the cooked pasta to the cooking pot.
- In a separate non-stick pan, saute the mushrooms over medium high heat until soft and tender, for about 5 minutes. Lightly season with salt and pepper.
- Meanwhile, combine the chicken stock and red pepper flakes in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat.
- Add the broccoli, chicken stock, and mushrooms to the drained pasta. Heat over medium heat until hot; toss together and add salt to taste. Add in the crumbled feta cheese and fresh parsley and toss together one last time. Serve and enjoy!

I am entering the giveaway. And wow, what an awesome recipe and beautiful presentation. A perfect dish with some of my very favorite flavors- yum!
I am with you on pasta, Alice, any kind, any time, but I am most partial to linguine. I tend to overcook angel hair and it ends up in one big clump. You clearly have the timing right because yours is beautiful! I love the broccoli, mushrooms and feta as well. Yum!
I’m not entering the giveaway, but I love this dish! Two of my kids’ favorite vegetables! Must try this!
The photos are lovely as usual Alice!
Angel hair pasta is my absolute favorite!!! My mother would never make the “regular” thick spaghetti noodles when I was a kid….and apparently I take after her because I have never bought a package of the thicker noodles for my house either!
Annnnyway, this recipe sounds seriously great. I love the broccoli in it – such a tasty veggie! 😉
I love this simple pasta dish. It would make a perfect weeknight meal. Those plates are lovely.
My guy loves angel hair’s texture and broccoli is his favorite veggie, Alice! Win, win!
All you had to say was feta, and I’m all in.

Your description of pasta pomodoro sounds just like the one I used to have all the time at Cipriani here in buenos aires, many years ago. I´ve been meaning to make it, and it calls for capellini, which is a pasta I don´t use much. Feta and mushrooms, that sounds like the perfect alternative plan Alice! Have a great day!
Thank you, Paula! Cheers to you my dear friend and have a wonderful Sunday! We both must make the Capellini with red sauce, fresh garlic, basil and extra virgin olive oil! 🙂
I always have a box of angel hair pasta in my pantry. It is my husband’s choice for noodle type pasta. And since he has asked for me to make more pasta dishes without tomato sauces (heartburn issues), this is going on my to-make list.
This looks like a quick, delicious meal…perfect for a busy week night!!! Beautifully done, my friend!
I am entering the giveaway! and excited about the #SundaySupper chat tonight – @Frogger097

All I can say is yummy in my tummy! Thanks for stopping by.
This is definitely the kind of dish that I could eat weekly! Simple flavors coming together to make something amazing…mmmmm….
I’m such a pasta nut and broccoli and mushrooms are my favorite veggies! This sounds incredible!
So light and good for you.
I’m entering the giveaway. (And that pasta looks delightful!) 🙂
What a fabulous dish!
I love Past Pomodoro. Never tried their angel hair pasta, I’m a fan of the penne portobello. So good. Will have to try the pomodoro next time.
When I was first learning to cook on my own (I could bake but a girl can’t live on cookies alone… or so it seems) this sort of pasta was my go to. I used a lot of lemon pepper, but this one is a bit more sophisticated. Thanks for the reminder recipe. Sometimes you just don’t need to drown your pasta!

I’m entering the giveaway. Thanks!
I’ve been eating noodles almost everyday in Japan and this quick and delicious pasta is very appealing! My kids eat broccoli and they’d like it even more with pasta!
Nami,
thank you! My girls loved this pasta (made a non-spicy version for them) . . I hope you give this a try!
I am entering the giveaway! Thx!
Yep, I could eat this recipe 3 times a week, too! I love those big crumbles of feta. Wow!
I am entering the giveaway! But also, I was about to leave a comment anyway to tell you how tasty the pasta looks!

Mmm…this dish looks fresh, simple and delicious, in other words, perfect for busy, hot summer weekday nights. I’m a pasta-fiend too, Alice. Scratch that – I’m a major carbo-holic. I’ll never give it up!
I love *everything* about this recipe!
Awh, thank you so much Sarah!
I just made a version of this pasta for dinner tonight, easy and delicious! Love that you added mushrooms, that would have been great. I roasted some grape tomatoes to add.
I could eat this every night of the week. Love all of the flavors and chunks of feta!

Nice to meet a fellow broccoli fan! You’ve made an amazing looking pasta dish which I want to replicate, Alice…Like so many of the dishes and desserts you post =)
