Thousand Island Dressing recipe! Homemade, chunky and so delicious, you’ll never buy store bought again!
Whenever I can, I try to make my salad dressings and condiments homemade. I get so much satisfaction from making it myself and I know exactly what’s in it. I’m no Nara Smith (who’s making homemade gum, crackers, bread, cheese, you name it!). . but I do enjoy making my own dressings and other things.
I think most of us have just become accustomed to buying things from the grocery store. And also a lot of us are busy and who has time to make homemade everything?! If you want to try this and have time, I hope you give this dressing a try! It’s so good and excellent on burgers, sandwiches, eggs, tacos. . you could even dip raw veggies in this and be happy.
Thousand Island Dressing
It’s funny. I don’t think we ever really bought thousand island from the grocery store. I mean, like, we weren’t big fans. We did buy a lot of Ranch and Italian dressings when I was a kid. I think I first attempted making this because I was making burgers at home and there’s something so delicious about a juicy burger with cheese and this dressing!!! Friends, it’s soooo good! and if you don’t want the burger with a bun, try my Chopped Burger Salad.
Thousand Island Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise any kind; I like using mayo with avocado oil
- 1/4 cup onion blended or pulsed in a food processor or finely chopped
- 2 to 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 to 3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish or bread and butter pickles finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Using a small mixing bowl, mix together ingredients and taste and adjust anything as needed. Store leftovers in an air tight glass container with lid.
- This dressing is ready to eat as soon as you mix it, but the flavors get better after 24 hours in the fridge. For a sweeter dressing, add a little more sweet pickle relish. For best results, enjoy within 1 week. Stir and mix up before each use.
