Brunch at The Home Market in Madison, Wisconsin! Including some tips on entertaining, setting a table and more!
One of the many things I love about living in Madison, Wisconsin is the great, warm community we have here. There are so many great, special local businesses here and we have so many creative, brilliant people here as well, who I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know over the last few years.
A week ago, I had the great honor of hosting a beautiful brunch at The Home Market here in Madison, Wisconsin. We had guests come and enjoy some food, cocktails, watch and participate in some demonstrations and attendees even got a quick calligraphy lesson from the beautiful and talented Kelly from Bash Calligraphy.
I’m a huge supporter of female entrepreneurs and recently I met with Kate Kazlo, who started The Home Market in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward neighborhood in 2006.
I love that Kate used her retail and home furnishings background and opened up her own store, back in her home state of Wisconsin. If you’re ever in Milwaukee, be sure to check out her flagship store, still in the Historic Third Ward neighborhood, but in a larger space. The Home Market-Madison opened in March of 2016 as the second location for the brand.
The Home Market specializes in custom slipcovered and upholstered furniture, unique home and kitchen accents, dinnerware, glasses, bedding and lighting and so much more! I seriously want everything in this store!
The Home Market
When I think about investing in pieces for my kitchen and dining table, I not only think about the look but I also think about the quality of what I am purchasing. The Home Market carries everything you could ever want from classic to modern and contemporary dinnerware to the rustic/farmhouse vibe. And the quality of everything is impeccable!
We partnered with Juliska, a brand available in The Home Market, making hundreds of items in over a dozen categories for the table and home, all inspired by the joy of bringing people together and helping create a happy home. I love this video where you can learn how Juliska began and what the brand and company are all about.
I got to do a quick table setting demonstration showing people how easy it is to set a formal table for special dinners or parties and just highlighted that there really are no rules.
Setting a Table
- Table cloths aren’t necessary anymore. You can certainly use one if you’d like but you can also just use a table runner and placemats!
2. Think about the overall look you are going for and maybe even a general color scheme.
3. When selecting dinnerware, don’t stay tied to one collection. Mix and match! Tie in matching colors and mix it up! There’s nothing more fabulous than interesting looking dinnerware with different designs but still having something that ties it all together.
We also enjoyed some great, simple brunch foods, which we set out on beautiful Juliska entertaining pieces! Like the stunning Berry & Thread Whitewash Cake Stand, featured below.
This cheese board is one of my favorites! This is another Berry & Thread Whitewash piece, their cheese board and knife set. I seriously want everything Berry & Thread, so classic and beautiful!
We even raffled off this beautiful Carine Champagne Bucket! We had a fabulous time and each guest walked away with a bag full of goodies! I’ll be writing a second post to highlight all of the lovely things we were able to give away thanks to some fabulous local businesses!
Stay tuned!
And if you are hosting some parties this spring or summer, be sure to stop into The Home Market at Hilldale for all of your home and entertaining needs!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the brunch, The Home Market, Juliska, Kelly from Bash Calligraphy, Kate Kazlo, Josh Haroldson, Laura Swisher, Joann Muana-Johnson and Celia Margolis.
