Sweet treats and baking are a big deal at my house. Growing up, my mother didn’t bake much and she didn’t really have a sweet tooth so the only dessert we ever really had was ice cream. I’m not one of those parents that frown upon sugar. I mean, I don’t let my kids go crazy and have 10 cookies or something and we do consider fruit a dessert too.

I love having my daughters in the kitchen with me, baking and helping me out. I’m not sure if it’s the actual activity of baking that they enjoy, or the fabulous baked treat they get to enjoy when we are done. I’m hoping it’s both! But, either way, I love that we are making memories and hopefully establishing family traditions that they will continue doing with their kids.

We always bake cookies and banana bread over the holidays. And during the summer, since it’s hot, we keep the oven baking to a minimum but we still manage to whip up some sweet treats.

For me, summer and s’mores are a given. There’s something about staying up late, sitting by a campfire and roasting a marshmallow. We often make s’mores when we’re camping or at a friend’s house. But what if you don’t have a campfire and you’re craving that sweet, decadent treat?

Did you know you can make s’mores at home in your oven?! And all you need is 2 to 3 minutes!

After my kids and I figured out that we could make s’mores at home, it’s been great! August 10th is National S’mores Day! Yes, you read that right! It’s a thing, y’all. And we all have to celebrate this year! And now you know you can make them at home so there’s no excuse!

I like to mix things up a bit with my s’mores so we made our s’mores six different ways!

  1. Traditional
  2. The candy bar
  3. Peanut butter and banana
  4. Strawberry and marshmallows
  5. Healthy: strawberries and coconut cream
  6. Chocolate Lovers: dipped in melted chocolate and sprinkles

We picked up everything from our local Easy S’mores At Home! Completely indulgent and yummy, this is the perfect quick, summer treat to make at home and share with friends and family!

Author: Hip Foodie Mom

Ingredients

For the s'mores:

  • 1 box Benton’s Honey Graham Crackers
  • 1 bag Baker’s Corner Marshmallows
  • 1 to 2 packages of chocolate bars
  • Peanut butter cups
  • Peanut Delight Creamy peanut butter
  • 1 to 2 bananas sliced thin
  • 1 cup strawberries sliced thin
  • Coconut whipped cream recipe below
  • Baker’s Corner semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles optional

For the homemade coconut whipped cream:

  • 1 14- ounce can full fat coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar + more if needed

Instructions

For the s'mores:

  • Preheat your oven to the broil setting (500 to 550 degrees on most ovens). Alternatively, you can also bake your s’mores at 400 degrees for about 3 to 4 minutes or until the marshmallow is softened and the chocolate, melted.

Traditional:

  • Place graham cracker onto a lined baking sheet. Place a single piece of chocolate on top and one marshmallow on top of the chocolate. Place the baking sheet into your oven and broil for about 2 minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on them while in the oven.
  • Remove from the oven and top with another graham cracker and enjoy immediately!

The candy bar:

  • Place graham cracker onto a lined baking sheet. Place a peanut butter cup on top and then one marshmallow on top of the peanut butter cup. Place the baking sheet into your oven and broil for about 2 minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on them while in the oven.
  • Remove from the oven and top with another graham cracker and enjoy immediately!

Peanut butter and banana:

  • Spread some creamy peanut butter onto your graham cracker and place graham cracker onto a lined baking sheet. Place single piece of chocolate on top and top with thinly sliced bananas. Then, place one marshmallow on top of the bananas. Place the baking sheet into your oven and broil for about 2 minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on them while in the oven.
  • Remove from the oven and top with another graham cracker and enjoy immediately!

Strawberry and marshmallows:

  • Place graham cracker onto a lined baking sheet. Place fresh sliced strawberries on top and then one marshmallow on top of the strawberries. Place the baking sheet into your oven and broil for about 2 minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on them while in the oven.
  • Remove from the oven and top with another graham cracker and enjoy immediately!

Healthy Strawberries and Coconut Cream:

  • Place graham cracker onto a lined baking sheet. Place fresh sliced strawberries on top of the graham cracker. Place the baking sheet into your oven and broil for about 2 minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on them while in the oven.
  • Remove from the oven, top with the fresh coconut cream and top with another graham cracker and enjoy immediately!

Chocolate Lovers:

  • Dip your already made s’mores into melted chocolate and top with sprinkles if desired.

For the homemade coconut whipped cream:

  • Chill your coconut milk in the refrigerator overnight, being sure not to shake or tip the can to encourage separation of the cream and liquid.
  • Remove the coconut milk carefully from the fridge and remove the lid. Scrape out the top, thickened cream and leave the liquid behind (reserve for use in smoothies).
  • Place the hardened cream into a mixing bowl. Beat for 30 seconds with a mixer until creamy. Add the powdered sugar and mix until creamy and smooth, for about 1 minute. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed.
  • Use immediately or refrigerate - it will harden and set in the fridge the longer it's chilled. The coconut cream will keep for up to 1 to 2 weeks.

I just made s’mores last night with my 6 year-old. She was so happy! And it takes about five seconds. Gotta love it. And I love doing it with peanut butter, too. That’s just a fun bonus to a tried and true classic!

Smores will always be one of those classic treats…it definitely reminds me of my childhood. Especially when I went to Girl Scout camp and charred my marshmallows to a crisp! 🙂 I love your variation on snores, Alice! Looks perfect!

Alice, I’m going to have to try this before my girls start school again. We have an electrical fireplace that is untouched and they’ve been wanting to make smores. What a great alternative your recipe is.
