Energizing Winter Smoothie Bowls! Packed with spinach, kale, almond butter, oranges and grapefruit, this is just the way you want to start your morning!
Happy Monday everyone! How was everyone’s Valentine’s Day weekend? I wasn’t going to mention it here but here’s goes. . I had a VI peel done to my face on Thursday. I have sun spots on my face that I’m trying to get rid of . . I’ve talked about my skin here. And I did have laser treatment done that only made them worse. So, over the past year, I’ve just been using products and having a light, very mild chemical peel done to my face every few months. They have been great and my skin looks a lot better now. . I just still have these darn sun spots. They have lightened but are still visible. So, as recommended by Katie, my medical aesthetician, who I love, I went for it! If you’re in Madison, you need to go see her here.
The VI Peel makes your skin peel like crazy and by crazy, I mean scary crazy. My face is peeling all over the place, like the whole top layer of my skin is coming off. It’s crazy. My kids and husband just stared at me this entire weekend. And Phoebe and Madeline, keep coming up close to stare, stare some more and say, “oh this is so weird.” I am only mentioning this because it was Valentine’s Day weekend and I didn’t leave the house at all. You have to stay out of the sun for 7 days .. and because of all the peeling, you kinda don’t want to leave the house anyway; for fear of scaring people.
So, my awesome husband picked up Chinese food for Saturday night and cooked filet mignons for Sunday night. And because of my kitchen renovation (yes, it started and should be done by the end of the month!), we’re been camped out in our basement close to the bar kitchen (because the sink is here) and this might be the most time we’ve spent downstairs in my house since we moved in.
I’m currently hooked on grapefruit. Like, I’m buying the big bags from Costco and eating them up! And I’m still making my smoothies and smoothie bowls.
I may just keep this up all year long. and since kale and grapefruit are in season, I’m one happy camper.

Good Morning Cutie! Another smoothie idea! I’m hooked. I made a green tea berry smoothie over the weekend. It was awesome!!
green tea berry smoothie?! sounds delicious!!!
Look at the colour of this – beautiful!
I love eating smoothie bowls all year round, and I think that is the reason why I hardly ever get ill.
Dannii, I’d say there’s some truth behind that statement! I definitely have more energy and love adding more Vitamin C if I feel a cold coming on!
Wow I´ve never done somehting like the VI peel before! A friend of mine has but it always seemed too scary for me. Did it hurt? You´re going through a busy time, kitchen renovations too! You need his energy bowl for sure!! 🙂
Johlene, I was so scared and nervous but it didn’t hurt one bit!!! it was very relaxing and now i’m just peeling like crazy!!!!!
What a pretty smoothie bowl, Alice! Just what I need after the cold and snow that we got hit with yesterday. I love the addition of almond butter and grapefruit in here! Sounds like a delicious way to start out the day!
Thanks so much, Gayle!!!
Did you ever see that episode of Sex and the City when Samantha gets the chemical peel? If you haven’t, you need to. It’s hilarious. Because while it might be refreshing for your skin in the long run, the short run is a little frightening. The things we ladies do for beauty!
Just relax at home and have smoothies. It’s the best recovery method. And this one looks phenomenal!
haha, as I was googling “VI Peel” last night, that came up!!! I can’t exercise either which is driving me crazy .. but I could probably use the down time! 🙂 Thanks, Mir!
Lol, I have had a laser treatment before that made my skin flake and peel… not my prettiest 7 days, that’s for sure! 😉 So loving of your husband to go get take out and kinda hilarious your kids were in awe of the process. Beauty is pain. lol. Anyways, you know how to rock the smoothies and smoothie bowls, that much we all know! And this one looks and sounds fabulous! Loving all the goody nom noms you packed in here! Cheers, girlfriend and I hope your skin stops shedding like a snake soon! 😉
Cheyanne, that’s exactly what I feel like! a snake!!! it’s crazy. . I’m too self conscious to post pics but maybe I will 😛 thank you so much!!! Beauty IS pain! 😛
I’ve never had or seen the immediate results of a VI Peel so this is intriguing to me…despite the needing to stay in, I think I’d like to try it. I love how your kids were so curious! I am in to grapefruit these days, too! I can’t get enough – this smoothie bowl looks perfect and you know how much I love these colors!!! So beautiful!
Annie, I will definitely let you know how it goes. . it was painless .. and yeah, other than staying in and no exercise, it’s fine. . I just have to be ok looking like this for a week! 😛
I’ve been doing microdermabrasion to lighten my spots but it’s taking forever for them to fade. The peel sounds like it might do the trick. Can’t wait to hear more about it! This smoothie bowl is just what I need for breakfast. Love all the healthy ingredients loaded with natural energy boosters.
Jen, you should definitely look into it!!! or ask your face person about this!!!! I’ll keep you posted!
Wow! That VI peel sounds like serious business! I would say that I can’t imagine leaving the house for 7 days, but I’ve done so before (too much snow here in Maine!). LOL. I can’t believe you also have a kitchen reno on top of all of that! Anyway, your smoothie bowls look so yummy. I especially love how you arranged the chia seeds and other toppings so beautifully on the bowls. 🙂
Alice these bowls are gorgeous and love the idea of adding almond butter for extra creaminess!
Loving the pink and green colors going on here! So bright and cheery! Exactly what I need this time of year …. Can winter just be over now??
Oh Alice, you’re totally gorgeous regardless! But how nice of your man to make you such an awesome meal when you’re cooking out of your bar kitchen! I have to admit, I didn’t do much cooking this weekend either and it was kind of nice! I could definitely use these this week to get me going though 🙂
I’ve never tried a VI peel before but you’re going to look gorgeous either way 🙂 Hope you get some down time to relax in the mean time. Love these gorgeous smoothie bowls, I can’t get enough of grapefruit and these sound perfect with the almond butter!
Peeling faces are no fun, but at least the peels are helping with your skin woes. I have a peeling chin right now – boo! These smoothie bowls would definitely help the embarrassment 🙂
ALICE!!!! Oh my gosh, my eyelash lady keeps telling me I should do a skin peel routine, because I have sun spots and acne and some scars. But I’m scared! Sounds like you are happy with your results though. Maybe I should research it more. I don’t know. Anyways, this smoothie bowl looks like perfection. And a great way to start the day!
Liz!!! what does an eyelash lady do??? Do you get those fake lash extensions?? I hear they are fabulous! Nothing to be scared about, even though I was too. . I don’t know my results yet. . still peeling. . ask me again in a week or two! 🙂
Hi Alice, thanks for sharing. I have not yet had a face peel but maybe I should?? I’m 48 – the sun spots are annoying but I there are some great retinol creams out there. Hmmm – sweet of your hubby to cater your Valentines weekend in! Super sweet 🙂 I have been loving green smoothies with spinach lately – I also love them with anything citrus (see my green smoothie recipes on OvenHug). Love your ideas here. thank you for sharing!! ✨ Bita
Hi Bita! I also do the retinol creams as well, they were definitely helping and my face person suggested this .. I’ll let you know what I think in the next week or so! 🙂 thank you for visiting!!!
I love smoothie bowls SO much better than smoothies…they are SO much more fun!! This sounds like breakfast tomorrow – pinned!
Just gorgeous! I need one of these smoothie bowls to go with my banana bread ;).
This bowl sounds fabulous! Sorry to hear about the skin troubles, that peel sounds so intense.
My pale Irish skin has had a few peels—and I can totally relate to the horrible molting of the skin! There is never a good time to have it done! Glad you’re getting some good results. And you’re sure treating your skin well from the inside out, too—as your smoothie bowl looks healthy and delish!
I hope the VI peel works Alice! And I remember reading your skin story, I now wear sunscreen on my face every day! These smoothie bowls look delicious and nutritious! Pinned!
I make smoothies ALL THE TIME but I have yet to try out a smoothie bowl! I have no clue why, yours look absolutely fantastic and I love the idea of having all of those fun toppings. I need to get on this stat!
I have so many acne spots on my face and I do nothing about them 🙁 I probably should! hope the treatment works out well for you Alice! the smoothie bowl looks great!
This smoothie bowl looks fantastic Alice! My parents have a grapefruit tree and we have barely been keeping up. I hope your skin stops peeling soon! I have to say though. I’m kind of jealous. I’m a scab picker. Don’t hate me. Maybe I need to go get myself a VI peel. 🙂
Hahhah your face is peeling? Oh my! That would be weird lol. I hope this peel takes the spots away..which by the way I had no idea. I saw you a few months ago and I am pretty sure they are not visible on your pretty face 🙂
I’m excited to try this recipe! It looks so refreshing!
Thank you so much, Jamie!! I hope you try it!
Hopping over from your feature at Uncookie Cutter. Our vegetable garden is in full swing right now, especially the squash. THANK YOU for this recipe! I’ll be making it today!
