Dabba Walla_Flower Power backpack_main-1

As a mother, I am constantly going through backpacks, bags and totes that are the right size for my kids to carry. Now that both of my daughters are a little older, they like being independent and holding their own “stuff.”  I love finding unique bags or backpacks that are not only sturdy, but functional and cute!

Frustrated by the lack of functional, appropriately-sized bags available for children, sisters Susan Givens and Carol Mack teamed up to create Dabbawalla Bags. Inspired by the functional simplicity of European design, the launch product line is sized specifically for pre-school and early elementary school children. You’ll find no cartoon characters or action figures, no utilitarian oversized styles that mimic adult packs – just simple, colorful designs that kids of all ages can relate to.

(I kept the tag on the backpack so you could see the brand name and logo)

The name Dabbawalla was inspired by Susan’s travels in India where she was fascinated with the complex system of lunch box delivery men known as dabbawallas. The mission at Dabbawalla Bags is simple: design fun, functional bags that appeal to both kids and adults while promoting social responsibility. Their bags are crafted by sewers who earn fair wages in safe working conditions, and they do business with companies who support this commitment. How great is this?!

The Flower Power backpack, chosen by my daughter, is the perfect size for preschool, day trips, trips to the park and play dates. We are constantly running errands over the weekend and I always pack snacks so this little backpack has also become my go-to grab bag for my daughter’s snacks, water bottles and Elsa barbie doll, which my little one can’t seem to let go of and needs to bring with her everywhere.

The straps are adjustable, so you can make them longer or shorter for your child. So, even my 6 year old can use this as a little backpack, purse or travel bag. (Note: this is not a backpack for elementary school aged children to use for school backpacks.) These backpacks are more for lighter things and fun play dates or trips to the park as mentioned above.

Dabbawalla’s whimsical, colorful line of machine washable backpacks are sized and designed especially for kids, with adjustable straps and a sturdy handle. Room enough to tote lunch, snacks or toys. Two inside pockets and one outside pocket help stash and organize gear. Crafted from a revolutionary foam material that is degradable, recyclable, washable and 100% toxic free. A personalization option on the back pocket makes it extra special!

  1.  12” H x 11” w x 6”d
  2.  Sturdy grip handle and adjustable, comfortable straps
  3.  Sized and designed especially for kids ages 3-7
  4.  Lightweight
  5.  100% toxic-free including zero lead, BPA-free and no Phthalates or PVC
  6.  Individually sewn in Taiwan by a family-owned facility that supports fair labor practices and environmental stewardship
