Hotel Stay: Asbury Ocean Club in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Here is my honest review on my hotel stay, my thoughts, more details on the amenities and more!
In the four years that we have lived in PA, we’ve never visited the northern part of the Jersey shore. We’ve been to Cape May, Wildwood, Stone Harbor, Avalon, and driven through Atlantic City. I wanted to take the girls somewhere for July 4th and we wanted to visit some place new.
After reading this, we decided to make the short (only 1.5 hours) to Asbury Park. Once we knew where we were going, we had to find a place to stay. For me personally, I think it’s easier to find hotels. Especially if the trip isn’t planned in advance, all the decent houses get booked fast, a hotel stay is almost always my first choice.
We actually wanted to take Coco, my dog, with us so we were trying to stay at the Asbury Hotel, which is pet friendly but it was fully booked so that’s when I found the Asbury Ocean Club.
Hotel Stay: Asbury Ocean Club
Here is my honest review on my hotel stay, my thoughts, more details on the amenities and more! The hotel is quite pricey so let’s take a look at everything. Location: the Asbury Ocean Club is quite literally across the street from the beach and boardwalk. It’s a 5 minute drive to shopping and some great restaurants. They charge $70/day for valet parking with in and out privileges. I believe there are also parking spots (you will probably have to move your car quite a bit) and parking lots close by; these are the same parking lots used for beach parking.
Upon checking in, you are welcomed with a welcome beverage. I’m sure they offer cocktails but I arrived with my kids so they gave us a welcome punch which was quite refreshing. The hotel rooms are all on the 4th floor. It shares a building with some residence units. The security is great! You have to use a key card to go to the 4th floor from the elevator and use your key card again to enter the hallway to all of the hotel rooms.
The rooms: the rooms have very high ceilings, and are super clean and beautiful. Click here to watch my video. The desk is super spacious and the bathroom is as well. I love the shower (reminds me of 1 Hotel showers). Our room had a balcony, where we could see the beach and boardwalk. I loved the room: clean, comfortable bed, spacious and up to date and beautiful. Every room has an iPad where you can order room service, request housekeeping, turn down service and other things etc. You can also just use the phone in the room but the iPad is a nice touch. They also left a hand written note with some bottled water which was a nice touch.
The pool and dining area: I thought the pool area was very beautiful. The pool is shallow, only 3 to 4 feet deep, which is perfect if you have young children. Madeline wished it was deeper but there are plentiful lounge chairs and umbrellas and a bar so you can order food and drinks and hang out, lay out or just lounge. From the pool, you can also see the beach and boardwalk.
The dining area menu is a little limited but I think they have all the basic stuff and it’s fine in my opinion. There are so many restaurants close by and on the boardwalk, their dining area was fine for us. We just ate breakfast there and I got coffee in the mornings there. I do wish they had a coffee station set up for those who want coffee earlier than 7am. Otherwise, they open at 7am for breakfast and coffee.
The gym and spa: The second most important amenity for me at a hotel stay, after the clean and spacious rooms, is a great gym. The workout area at the Asbury Ocean Club is incredible! This was a state of the art gym with what looked like brand new equipment, treadmills, bikes and more. Hotel guests do share the gym with the people who live in the residences but I went there 3 days and each day it wasn’t crowded at all. There’s a boxing room, yoga room and a full gym with full weights and dumbbells and literally everything you could need. There’s also a spa there, which I didn’t visit but if we stay here again, you can bet I’m going to book myself a massage!
Asbury Ocean Club: Is It Worth It?
As I stated early on, the stay here isn’t cheap so is it really worth it? The short answer: it depends on what you are looking for, what you expect and what your budget is. If the budget isn’t in question, I would say YES GO FOR IT. The rooms, bed and bathrooms are great, the service was great and the amenities, in my opinion, were fabulous! The location is very convenient to the beach, boardwalk and lots of restaurants and shopping.
On the flip side, because the hotel rate is so high, I might explore some of the other hotel options if we visit again but if I needed to find a place to stay in Asbury Park, I would happily stay here again! Highly recommend! I would rate this hotel a 9 out of 10.
