It’s July 4th, friends!  I couldn’t think of a better way or day to introduce you to this fabulous online retailer called Uncommon Goods.

I love this American Flag Pie Plate.  “Show your stars and stripes and forge new traditions when you serve freshly-baked pie on this heirloom-quality plate. The muted palette and rustic design make each piece as nostalgic as Grandma’s famous apple pie pie. Serve up some national pride at your Memorial Day or Fourth of July picnic, or surprise the host with a double-duty gift as your dessert transforms into a patriotic tribute as the slices are lifted away. Handmade with high-fired, highly dense and durable stoneware clay, making these plates chip-resistant, dishwasher and microwave safe, and stain-resistant due to the non-porous surface. Take from oven to table and then table to freezer- that is, if you can resist polishing off that last slice! Handmade in Effort, Pennsylvania.”

Or what do you think of this Star Spangled Spatula? “Whether you use it to flip BBQ favorites at your Fourth-of-July picnic or to show a little national pride every time you get grilling, this all-American spatula is the perfect way to salute the USA. The proud piece features a perfect union of smooth solid walnut and sturdy stainless steel. The elements are handcrafted and united by hand by the artisans at Lamson and Goodnow, the oldest cutlery manufacturer in the United States. The company’s Massachusetts-based mill is still powered by energy harvested from the Deerfield River, just as it has been since the early 1800s. Designed by Jacob Riley-Wasserman. Assembled by hand in Massachusetts.”

UncommonGoods is an online and catalog retailer that combines the treasures of a specialty boutique, the great finds of a craft show, and discoveries from a faraway bazaar. Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, UncommonGoods is an independently-owned company that endeavors to feature unique designs and handcrafted gifts created in harmony with the environment and without harm to animals or people. They also support local artists and designers (I love this!). In fact, half of the products they carry are made right here in the USA.

I absolutely love finding unique items for my home and kitchen. And maybe it’s because I’m photographing my food and always looking for cool props, but I love browsing in stores and online looking for unique things. Who wants that same plate or bowl or cheese board that everyone has? I want this. Granite Cheese Board with Spreader. “From our favorite rock-obsessed New England artisans comes this handsome granite cheese board and handcrafted cherry wood spreading knife set. Although a natural for presenting brie, bleu or Boursin to fromage-craving party guests, the multi-tasking thick felt footed board also comes in handy when serving hot hors d’ oeuvres, cold canapés and even sushi. A fantastic housewarming or hostess gift, no two boards look alike.”

Any wine drinkers?

I love a nice glass of pinot grigio, cab, merlot or chardonnay. .  UncommonGoods has some GREAT wine glasses and accessories. Like these Op Art Wine Glasses and Coasters. “These ingenious wine glasses are about to give you a new way of looking at your favorite vintage. Inspired by the op art movement of the ’60s, the glass goblets are precision cut with straight and curved lines that create an illusion of shifting depth. Hold the glass to eye level, and you can see what appears to be a bulging sphere against a grid background. Add some wine to the glass, and the illusion is heightened as light bends and refracts through the liquid, magnifying and shifting the image.”

Or these Aerating Wine Glasses. Aerating Wine Glasses! How cool is that? Those sinuous lines are actually ridges on the interior of the glass that aerate the wine right in your hands. There’s no need to leave your bottle out to breathe before you enjoy it. (Made in Italy).

And I absolutely LOVE these.  Recycled Wine Glasses. I am getting these so more on these in a separate post later!
