French Onion Dip! I’m celebrating Chobani’s Greek Yogurt Week by featuring it in this recipe! Chobani Greek Yogurt is a high-protein, blank canvas for making everything delicious!
Disclosure: This is a paid, sponsored recipe and post in partnership with Chobani.
We went to the pediatrician’s office yesterday for the kids’ well visits and flu shots. I love our doctor so much. She immediately put the girls at ease . . as we all know, we’re living in different times. The doctor came in in gloves, a face mask, a face shield and had her hair back in a surgical cap. Basically, it looked like she was going into surgery. But no, this was a kid’s well visit at the doctor’s office.
Different times, my friends.
In addition to talking to them and asking how they are feeling, checking in on their mental health, the doctor also talked to the girls about exercise and their diet. She wanted to make sure they were getting enough calcium. As little kids, it was so easy but now that they are older, honestly their milk intake isn’t ideal. Having milk with your morning cereal isn’t enough. We settled on morning smoothies with milk or yogurt, Greek Yogurt, drinking more milk for lunch and dinner and discussing where we can add more calcium into their diets.
French Onion Dip with Greek Yogurt
These days, I find myself snacking on a lot of veggie plates. There’s nothing easier than putting out a veggie snack plate. You can prep and chop all the vegetables in advance; in fact, I like to keep a tupperware container of raw vegetables in the fridge so the kids can grab some when they want.
I am a dip and condiment fanatic. I love having something creamy to dip raw vegetables in to. Hummus, a green goddess avocado dip, or this French Onion Dip, these are my favorites!
French Onion Dip with Greek Yogurt
For me, adding caramelized onions is a no brainer. You simply must do it. The caramelized onions add so much flavor and texture. I just love it! Some recipes out there use sour cream but I love making this dip using Greek Yogurt. Not only is Greek Yogurt creamy and delicious but it also has many great health benefits.
We’re Making This Dip Non-Stop
Once you caramelize the onions, this French Onion Dip comes together in no time. With family movie nights, the holidays, watching TV and sports and honestly I find us watching TV a lot these days, you can really make this dip to enjoy for any occasion. We hope you try it!
French Onion Dip with Greek Yogurt
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil extra virgin + more if needed
- 3 medium yellow onions* sliced into thin strips
- pinch kosher salt
- water if needed
- 2 to 3 cups Chobani Non-Fat Plain Greek Yogurt
- 1 to 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- fresh parsley finely chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions: Using a large sauté pan, heat the butter and olive oil over medium high heat until the oil is shimmering. Add the onion slices and stir to coat the onions with the oil and butter mixture. Spread the onions out evenly over the pan and let cook, stirring occasionally.
- Depending on how strong your stovetop burner is you may need to reduce the heat to medium or medium low to prevent the onions from burning or drying out. After 10 minutes, you can sprinkle some salt over the onions, and you can also add a splash of water if needed to keep the onions from drying out as they cook.
- Cook, stirring every few minutes: Let cook for about 30 minutes more, stirring every few minutes. As soon as the onions start sticking to the pan, let them stick a little and brown, but then stir them before they burn. The trick is to leave them alone enough to brown (if you stir them too often, they won't brown), but not so long so that they burn. After the first 20 to 30 minutes you may want to lower the stove temperature a little, and add a little more oil, if you find the onions are about to burn. This is about the time that I like to stop. Some people like to caramelize their onions for up to one hour. When finished, remove from the heat and let cool a little and then chop them up.
- To make the French Onion Dip: Using a large mixing bowl, simply mix together the cooled caramelized onions, the Chobani Greek Yogurt (if you are unsure of how much to use, start with 2 cups but I usually add 3), garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, some salt and some parsley. I reserve some fresh parsley to garnish at the end. Mix together, taste and adjust anything as needed. Serve with chips, pita bread and fresh raw vegetables! Enjoy!
