Ingredients

  • 1 (14 oz) container firm tofu sliced
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 to 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger finely grated + more if desired
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds + more for garnish if desired
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for pan frying
  • scallions diced for garnish
  • serve with white or brown rice optional

Instructions

  • Dry the tofu with paper towels, pressing until no moisture remains. You can also leave it pressed in paper towels (or a kitchen or cheese cloth) with a heavy plate on top. Leave for about 5 to 10 minutes. Slice and set aside.
  • To make the dressing: whisk together the soy sauce, sugar, garlic, sesame oil, ginger and sesame seeds. Taste and adjust anything as needed and set aside.
  • Using a large pan or skillet, over medium high heat, heat the oil until shimmering or for a few minutes. Add the tofu and cook turning once, until browned and crispy, for about 7 to 8 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels. To serve: place the pan fried tofu on your serving plate and spoon the sauce over the fried tofu. Garnish with scallions and toasted sesame seeds if desired. Serve with white or brown rice and enjoy!
