Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line your muffin tin with paper or silicone cupcake or muffin cups.
Using a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and the vanilla. Add the melted butter and the buttermilk and whisk again.
Using a separate large mixing bowl, combine the flour, hazelnut flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix with a whisk to remove any lumps. Add the cherries and toss to coat.
Pour the dry flour/cherry mixture into the wet ingredients, and mix well. Lastly, mix in the chocolate chips and using either two spoons or a cookie scoop, fill the muffin wells with the batter and bake for about 25 minutes or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer to a rack to cool for about 5-10 minutes.
