I can hardly believe it but it’s that time of the year. The holidays are upon us. Family gatherings. Holiday entertaining and spending time with friends, family and loved ones. For me, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Holiday decorations are starting to pop up everywhere you go, kids are making their wish lists, families are making holiday plans . . and there seems to be a skip in everyone’s step (or maybe this is just me?).
I love the holidays, mainly because this means I will definitely be spending time with my family and friends. This year, my parents and my sister’s family are coming to my house for the holiday and you can bet there will be a table full of food, food and more food.
I don’t care how much food I have planned for the main and side dishes, there will always be appetizers at my house. This is probably why we start eating at 11am and it continues throughout the day. Cooking and nibbling and cooking and eating some more. I love this. This is my happy place.
Back in September at IFBC, I had the pleasure of learning about a company called Pastry Smart. Based in San Mateo, CA and founded in 2006, Pastry Smart is proud to be the first and only pastry, bread and confectionary producer to be American Humane Certified. Which means their commitment to an exclusive food supply chain ensures humane animal husbandry.
Pastry Smart is committed to the best in quality, sustainability, and value. They offer an extensive line of retail bakery, specialty foods, and food service products, using the finest natural and organic ingredients. Pastry Smart focuses on creating and manufacturing organic and humane brands, bringing the organic bakery to retail markets. They specialize in unique artisan breads, pastry products, and fine chocolates using all-natural organic materials. The idea: Offer high quality products with a boutique patisserie feel on a larger volume scale.
I have had the great pleasure of sampling a number of their delicious products. Their brioche. Oh my. SO good!
Their Par-Baked Demi Baguettes. OK, I need to stop and talk about these baguettes for a sec. Now, I have had my share of baguettes. For me, the perfect baguette has just the right exterior crust and is perfectly soft and delicious on the inside. Le Culture has something very special here. This bread is absolutely delicious. I love that you bake it at home. You get that freshly baked bread experience right at home.
Perfection.
And, of course, I needed something fabulous to eat with this bread. I made this Baked Kale Artichoke Dip and topped it with walnuts. Oh. My. Gawd. I am totally making this on Christmas Day for my family.
It has artichokes, kale and walnuts so it’s healthy.

One of my favorite family recipes is similar! Baked brie wrapped in phyllo dough with a layer of fig jam spread on top (well on top of some phyllo that’s on top of the brie, but then with more buttery phyllo wrapped over that). SO GOOD.
