When I started food blogging, I never thought it would be much more than a place for me to keep my recipes and share them. . I knew there were a ton of food blogs out there but I never knew this fabulous food blogging community existed. A lot of these wonderful people have been blogging for 2-3+ years now and I still see passion and joy in their posts. I still see these beautiful, innovative recipes. . I’ve learned so many things so far (and am still learning) but today I will share two very important things.
#1: Food bloggers help each other. I think I saw a BlogHer newsletter that said “Other Bloggers are not your competition, but your community.” or something like that. I thought that was awesome. I’ve seen many bloggers post things to help other people or newbie food bloggers get started. . posts that share tips on how to get started, what to do, and how to build your readership etc.
#2: There are Food bloggers out there who care about things and believe in things and have started movements if you will. . movements that have brought together bloggers as a community in support of something they believe in. Isabel is one of those people. She started a wonderful movement called Sunday Supper.
Sunday Supper is on a mission to bring back Sunday Supper around the family table in every home. Hundreds (maybe more) of bloggers come together and share recipes and most importantly, they have Sunday Supper with their families. Join us every Sunday for great recipes and some inspiration. You can read more about #SundaySupper here.
Each Sunday there is a different theme and today’s theme is Autumn Apple Recipes! Here’s a lovely Applesauce Chocolate Chip Bundt cake recipe. For whatever reason, I used to not like bundt cakes. Maybe I thought they seemed old . . I don’t know. . but now, I think they are so beautiful! I’ve made this bundt cake a few times and I think I have perfected it. It’s lovely. Very subtle and delicious and the caramel glaze is just amazing. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.
I hope you enjoy! Please check out our #SundaySupper line-up down below. There are sooooooo many good recipes! I am really so honored to be cooking and baking with this group! So, what are YOU waiting for? Whether you cook or not, I hope you enjoy Sunday Supper with your family, around the table.
Applesauce Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake with Caramel Glaze
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Chinese Five Spice if you don't have this, you can try ground cardamom
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 2 cups unsweetened applesauce or puréed peeled apples in a food processor
- 2 large eggs lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 stick unsalted butter melted
- 2 cups semisweet-chocolate chips
- FOR THE CARAMEL TOPPING:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoon evaporated fat-free milk divided (don't sweat it if you can't find fat-free evaporated milk)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup English toffee bits
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°. Butter and flour a 12-cup Bundt pan. In a large bowl, whisk the flour with the granulated sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, Chinese Five spice, salt, and ground cloves. Whisk in the applesauce, eggs, oil and melted butter. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few crumbs attached.
- Transfer the pan to a rack and let the cake cool for 10 minutes, then invert it onto the rack and let cool completely, about 20-30 minutes.
- TO PREPARE THE CARAMEL GLAZE:
- Melt 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1 1/2 tablespoons evaporated milk; cook for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Add the vanilla and powdered sugar; stir with a whisk until smooth. Let cool for about 2 minutes.
- Pour the caramel glaze over your cooled bundt cake.
- If adding the english toffee bits, sprinkle them on after the caramel so, as the caramel sets, the toffee bits will stick.

patsy says
The cake on it’s own sounds fabulous… then, you took up another notch to add a caramel sauce? I’ve got to have a slice or two… yum!
hipfoodiemom says
Haha, thank you, Patsy! The caramel sauce was awesome and yes, totally made the cake even better! I had 3 slices (not all in one sitting) 😛 but who’s counting! Thank you again!

Carla says
I agree – this past year has taught me how supportive everyone is of each other. That although we want to have the best blog, we also want to see others succeed in having the best blog as well. And I’d much rather come to a food blog for a recipe (especially a blogger I know) because I know the recipe will good rather than taking a chance with those popular recipe sites.
Anyway back to you – bundt cakes are awesome because you don’t have to fuss much. They are pretty by their shape alone plus you just need to make a quick glaze. Pinning!
hipfoodiemom says
Thank you, Carla! Yes, I know what you mean. . I’m still a newbie and learning so much. . but loving it! And yes, I’ve found blogs where I know the recipes will be good and have been tested etc. Thank you!
Katie says

hipfoodiemom says
Totally. . and sometimes I ask my husband for his opinion and we never agree! 🙂

Well hello! Did somebody say chocolate? See now, you went and reeled me in. As if apples weren’t enough to love! This is a lovely bundt – I’d have challenges with portion control with this one. :-))
hipfoodiemom says
Haha, thank you, Lyn! I know! I had to give away half the cake to my neighbors! Needed to get it out of the house in fear I was going to eat the entire thing! 🙂

hipfoodiemom says
Thank you, Liz! I’ve come a long way with the bundt cakes! Believe me! the very first time I baked one, I didn’t know I was supposed to flip it over when I removed it from the bundt pan. so embarrassing! 🙂
Erin @ Dinners, Dishes and Desserts says
The food blogging community is an amazing thing! This cake looks incredible! I need to get a bundt pan!
hipfoodiemom says
Erin, yes! you must invest in a bundt pan! Make sure you pay attention to the detail in the pan; that is what your cake will look like when you flip it (if that makes sense). I want to get another one that has more defined lines on top. 🙂
Tara Noland says
